Dear Families,
May is a busy month at Breck! We continue to use each day to the
fullest. The feeling of “community” in
our classroom is impressive, as the children have internalized the concepts
introduced in the C.A.R.E. curriculum: Optimism, Empathy, Resiliency,
Perspective, Flexibility, Advocacy, and our new theme - Curiosity.
Strong friendships have been created among the students. Your efforts in promoting play dates and your
loyalty as class and school volunteers has been wonderful. We appreciate each and every one of you.
Our writers have been busy all year! We are thrilled with all of the published
books in our classroom and are looking forward to seeing our last published
books of the year.
We are beginning to gather information for student assessment and
progress reports. Final reports will be mailed to you in June. Although we know
your child has been working hard and has had a successful first grade
experience, we encourage you to keep your child’s curiosity for learning high
during the summer.
IMPORTANT
DATES TO REMEMBER:
May 18 Field Day this is a non-uniform day.
Children should dress in comfy clothes.
They will be very active, so gym shoes are a must! "Carnival” is
our theme and students are invited to dress in their best carnival attire – or
wear blue and gold. Field Day events will take place at Mc Knight Stadium.
Grades 1 and 2 will compete from 9:30-11:30am. The outdoor BBQ lunch will follow
at 12:00. Parents are invited to attend the games and lunch! (We understand
if your busy schedule doesn’t allow you to join us.) In case of rain, Field Day will be
rescheduled for Friday May 25th.
May 28 NO
SCHOOL-MEMORIAL DAY
May 31 Portfolio
Open House – We
would like to invite all parents to
join us in Rm. 25 to view our portfolios of first grade. We have worked hard at collecting our work
and compiling them as our first grade memory.
We would like you to come from either 7:30 – 8:15 am or 2:45 – 4:00 pm
on Thursday May 31st . More
details will follow.
June 1 Closing Exercises – 1:30 pm (Chapel doors open at 12:00). You
won’t want to miss our “Closing Exercises”.
Plan to arrive a bit early to get seats in the chapel. Our class will be sitting together as we all
join in the celebration of an outstanding school year. The children should come at the regular start
time in the morning and should wear comfortable, yet semi-dressy clothes (it’s
a non-uniform day!). Our music teachers
have already begun rehearsals of songs and dances for this special occasion.
June 3 Baccalaureate – If your child is coming to sing at the
Seniors’ Baccalaureate Service, please meet Ms. Anderson in room 38 at 4:45. Students are welcome to stay after their song
or leave quietly with their parents following their performance. Dress-up clothes are appropriate for this
evening. Bring your tissues for this
wonderfully touching finale of your first grader’s year with his/her Senior
Buddy.
Lost and Found The
Lost and Found bins are filled with unclaimed clothing. Please take time to look through them if you
are missing any clothing items.
It has been a pleasure sharing in the education
of your child!
Enjoy your summer!
Sincerely,
Marie Murphy and Carly Skates
